Game Over — the Enhanced Edition

Dear Pranjal (and Mechele, who should now gets to read everything I send you),

Two years ago today we launched Indus.

Today you launch something far more important. And with a much better co-founder.

First, the hard part. I said "I'll be there" on WhatsApp. I'm not.

I'm sorry. I'm at my desk tonight, still working to keep the Indus dream alive.

It's the same dream you have carried in every shader, every frame, every optimization pass for 6 years. So in a way, you are there with me too.
We are both shipping tonight.

GAME OVER — the enhanced edition

You have seen the t-shirt. Sad groom, smiling bride, GAME OVER.

As your CEO I have to tell you the sign is wrong. It is a bad build.

Here is what the patched release version looks like:

  • GAME OVER was the single player campaign. You finished it. Credits rolled.
  • Player 2 has joined. Co-op mode unlocked. No matchmaking. No lobby. Permanent party.
  • There is no respawn. Save often. Say sorry faster.
  • Difficulty: starts on Easy. Nobody warns you it auto-scales.
  • Marriage runs on a low tick rate. Latency goes up. Most devs are aware of this. (Your words, July 2025. They age well.)
  • You optimised Indus to run on a Redmi 12. Marriage is harder. The frame drops come when you least expect them. Ship anyway.
  • And the shadows. You once told me props without shadows look like they are floating. Same with people. Stand close enough to cast one on each other.

What I know about this game

I wrote a wedding toast in 2006 where every family member prayed in the language of their own work. So here would be my lines for you on this special day:

Lord, let this marriage be like a well made shader. Cheap on the GPU, beautiful in every light. Let Love be the only pass that never gets culled, and let every bug between them be fixed before the next build.

19 years in, this is the rest of what I have learned:

The only way out is Through. And the only Good way Through is Together.

That line was never about a company. It was always about this.

On 16 Oct 2026, for "you and Mechele" became "We".

Everything after is just patch notes.

And the one thing I actually want you to keep.

When times get tough, and they will, keep things calm.
You have done this for 6 years at supergaming.
Through a pandemic, through milestones, through every hard month. Every message back to me was "All right." "Will do." "Got it." Then the thing got done. That calm is your superpower.
Mechele chose it on purpose. Don't ever patch it out no matter what life throws at you !

I know that on this special day you would have received enough advice to last you well into your 40's, so I'll add a oft said Irish Blessing on this day.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again, may God hold both of you in the palm of His hand.

May your happiness be complete, your marriage long and prosperous, and every wedding speech you hear be funnier and shorter than mine.

Here's to your joy and ours, from this day forward.

Congratulations Pranjal and Mechele.

PS. Mechele, if he ever says he will "see what I can do in one week", he means it. He always has.

coffee, a walk, or a hard problem?

Let's make something

Find me at the SPC office in Bengaluru, usually Wednesdays. Coffee, a walk, hacking user acquisition — all yes.
